Hey there!

Today was a day of new beginnings and fun challenges! I kicked off the recording of my audiobook for Burn Bright, Not Out at the public library. This step into the world of audiobook production was ignited over a cup of coffee with my mentor, Carla Johnson, who recently brought her own book Re:Think Innovation to life through audio. Her insights and experiences were incredibly helpful and inspiring.

During this process, I also connected with my audio editor and producer, a fantastic lead from Carla on UpWork. Discussing the ins and outs of recording with them made the whole experience even more special. Today was about more than just narrating a book; it was about being creative, absorbing new knowledge, and stepping into a realm filled with exciting new possibilities.

Studies suggest that novelty-seeking behavior, often termed ‘neophilia,’ is linked to enhanced learning and memory. The rush of encountering new challenges – be it writing, consulting, public speaking, or now, audiobook recording – stimulates the brain, enhancing both cognitive flexibility and creativity.

Researchers have found that novelty activates the brain’s reward system, releasing dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and learning. This could explain why embracing new experiences, as I love to do, is not just exhilarating but also mentally enriching. In fact, a study in the journal ‘Neuron’ showed that exposure to new experiences enhances connectivity in the hippocampus, a key area involved in learning.

While novelty can be stimulating, it’s also important to find a balance. Experts suggest that too much novelty can be overwhelming, leading to stress and decreased productivity. The key is to integrate new experiences into a structured framework – exactly what I’ve strived to do in my journey. Just like anything else, you get better at it the more you do it. This balance ensures we continue to grow without overextending ourselves.

Just as I’ve integrated diverse experiences into my professional and personal journey around the world, I invite you to embrace new horizons in both your career and personal life. The pursuit of new skills, altering daily routines or stepping into unfamiliar roles not only enriches our expertise but also stimulates our brain function and sparks creativity. This continuous evolution leads to a deeper sense of personal and professional fulfillment.

As today’s recording session comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the remarkable journey that has brought me here. Each word I record is not just a sentence in a book but a milestone in my lifelong quest for growth and learning. It’s a vivid reminder of where I’ve been and the exciting path that still lies ahead.

I encourage you to join me on this journey of discovery and novelty with me. Let’s embrace the challenges, learn from each new experience, and, above all, savor the ride. The richness of new experiences brings an unparalleled opportunity for growth and joy.

Thank you for being part of my story. Here’s to embracing the new and making the most of our unique journeys!

Warm regards,
